The movement to revitalize downtown has been taking place for over 10 years and a lot has happened. Little things here and there. Every week I see improvements happening to re-energize downtown. However, real tangible proof takes time.
But once you see construction – you realize it really IS happening.
And now you can see it everywhere. I have never seen so much construction at once – which is a clear sign the downtown core is taking an upturn.
Just within a 5 block radius of The Copper Pig Bbq House, I see 10 improvement projects currently taking place. Around the corner on 3rd, restorations are happening to the old Pizza Rico’s building, the foundation is laid for the new Homework store & Betulla Burning is almost set to open.
Kask Taproom on 4th avenue is practically ready to open & Crossroads Brewery is aiming for December. Directly across from the brewery, Canada Photofax is renovating and will have one of the finest buildings downtown. Plus, there is construction on a new office building next door to our restaurant.
I tell you, historic George Street is making a big comeback.
Additionally there are large scale projects of the new Marriott hotel on Brunswick Street, the Azure building on 7th & the work at the Law Courts. On top of all this will be the spring construction of a downtown green space one block from TCP.
And this is added to the already completed Wood Innovation Design Centre, the new RCMP building & how much work the banking industry has put into their exterior envelopes.
I just wanted to say it’s fun to be a part of the re-energizing of the city core and it is wonderful to see – visually see – that it’s all happening downtown.
